Ignore this - I haven't touched it in ages, it's terrible, and outdated. Maybe someday I'll get around to fixing it

I wrote this original page in 8th grade (telnetting to a UNIX box my dad had access to and using vi - the only way to learn HTML) and since had done little more than update few nit-picky details (my school, my grade, etc.).  It got boring.  It got ugly and boring.  So here we go - the attempt at the all-out rehaul of Aprotim sanyal's webpage.

Now comes the hard part -- content.   See, most personal webpages tell about the person who made them.  now that's all well and good, but you don't gain anything from them - I'm going to try to show as well as tell you who I am, and maybe even get some ideas out there.  If I fail miserably at all of these things, sue me - I'm human.

To start with, music is an important part of my life.  I don't know why.  I love singing along to songs (much to the chagrin of those around me) and at one point actually had a good voice.  I've played a little piano and a little guitar in my life, but I'm hardly a virtuoso.

Somebody once told me that our parents' generation was the first who was able to live their life to a soundtrack.  Now every major event in our lives can be linked to one song, one word, one chord.  In this spirit, I want to start a list - I want to list songs and their significance in people's lives.  The list will start out small, and hopefully, with time will become a collage of people from all different walks of life (though likelier than not it'll just be a bunch of my friends).

If you want to add a song, or tell how a song has significance in your life, please do so, but please note - these go directly up on my website (though I may delete them if they are profane) and I may some day publish them.  You don't have to use your real name, and you don't have to give a real email address - but if you submit an experience, you're telling me it's ok to publish this for the whole world.

"So," you must be asking yourself, "if you are so into music, Mr. Aprotim sanyal (if that is your real name), what music do you like?" Well you're in luck -- here's where I tell you!  Umm... I don't really know -- basically I listen to all kinds of music.  I have fairly eclectic taste, but I generally like Rock music.  This, of course, does not narrow things down quite sufficiently for most tastes.

To elaborate, for musical value, I generally like Rock music with good musical elements - either voice or background music, preferably both.  This generally comes from late 60s to early nineties (i.e. Beatles, Zepplin, Doors, Hendrix, Queen, Floyd, Soul Asylum, Collective Soul, Metallica, R.E.M., STP).

Aside from that kind of music, I like music that's just fun to sing along with.  Catchy tunes with some minimal amount of real instruments are usually a plus.  (i.e. Nirvana, Greenday, Offspring, Oasis, OLP, Sublime, Cornershop, 3eb)

I also find I'm liking some of the new junk they put on the radio, even though it's more pop-y than rock I generally like.  These are usually just songs I like, such as We Are, Absolutely (Story of a Girl), Kryptonite.

"So," you must be thinking, "this so-called Aprotim sanyal seems to be somewhat interested in music - but is there more to him - any depth as a person?"  And the short answer is: no.

The long answer is: maybe a little.  I enjoy reading immensely.  My favorite author is without a doubt Isaac Asimov.  Asimov was to Science-fiction what Einstein was to physics - he revolutionized the subject.  I read Sci-Fi a lot, largely because I'm fascinated by what might be.  I also read history with interest.

Additionally, I like to think.  Thinking seems to be a lost art in our society - we get more sensory information than we can deal with, so we stop thinking.
